Effects of static and cyclic fatigue at high temperature upon reaction bonded silicon nitride
Résumé
The effects of static fatigue and cyclic fatigue upon Reaction Bonded Silicon Nitride (RBSN) were compared using the statistical distributions of residual strengths measured in tension. The strength-controlling flaws are highly dependent upon frequency. It was found that low frequency cyclic and short-term static loadings blunted surface flaws, whereas high frequency cyclic fatigue affects internal flaw populations. This situation is attributed to oxidation related mechanisms.
