SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS FOR ULTRAFINE METAL PARTICLES
Résumé
Coalescence growth of particles is described as a sequence of binary events, where at each step the change of volume is a random fraction of the volume after coalescence. The model predicts that the logarithm of the particle size should have a Gaussian distribution. This is corroborated by experimental data for inert gas evaporated particles, islands in discontinuous films and supported metal catalysts.
