Les Bosses 1, Lamagdelaine (Lot) : un gisement paléolithique moyen antérieur à l'avant-dernier Interglaciaire sur la moyenne terrasse du Lot

Abstract : Excavated in 2000 within the framework of the preventive archaeology operations preliminary to the construction of the A20 motorway in the Lot department, Les Bosses site at Lamagdelaine constitutes a significant contribution with the knowledge of the oldest manifestations of the European Middle Paleolithic. The multidisciplinary analyses presented here in a dynamic vision opportunely enrich a data corpus still little provided on this topic.
Dated from the isotopic stages 9 or 8, lithic industry offers original characters, ascribable to some extent to its antiquity but also to the specific lithological context of Quercy where quartz and quartzite largely dominate. A real economy of raw materials could be highlighted, making it possible to progress in the reflection on the settlement patterns of a territory such as the middle Lot valley. The studies gathered in this work fall under resolutely modern and renewed prospects of prehistoric research, from geoarcheology to lithic technology, and represent a new step towards understanding the early Middle Paleolithic in Southwestern Europe.
