This article surveys recent developments of theories of speech production. In a first part, we present the main steps involved in speech production, followed by a classification of current models of speech production. Then we discuss three views: the discrete view, the cascade view and the interactive view of lexical access in speech production. Finally, we turn to the functional anatomy and the time-course of speech production.
