In the context of psychiatric emergencies, it is important to distinguish between so-called controllable agitation and uncontrollable agitation. In this context, physical restraint of the adult patient is sometimes necessary, but remain an exceptional measure. Restraints must be applied rapidly and in a protocolised manner. It should be used sparingly in the elderly patient. Physical restraint is a medical prescription that must be accompanied by chemical restraint.
Dans le cadre de l’urgence psychiatrique, il est important de distinguer l’agitation dite contrôlable de l’agitation incontrôlable. Dans ce contexte, la contention physique du patient adulte est alors parfois nécessaire, mais reste une mesure d’exception. La mise en place des contentions doit être effectuée rapidement et de façon protocolaire. Son recours doit être parcimonieux chez le patient âgé. La contention physique est une prescription médicale qui s’accompagne obligatoirement d’une contention chimique.
