This is a journey through fifty years of Internet history. The book begins by presenting how to model a data network showing the origins of the network and the function of Internetworking. Then, it explains how the Internet protocol (IPv4) was developed: What is it? why did we need it, what kind of services does it provide? how do its auxiliary works? The book then follows the problem of exhaustion of the IPv4 addresses space discussing the solutions that have been put forward to confront this problem, namely Classless interdomain Routing (CIDR) and Network address translation (NAT), and down to the IPv6, the protocol which represents the definitive solution. The book ends by discussing the auxiliaries of IPv6, namely the Internet control message protocol for IPv6 (ICMPv6) Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP).
C'est un voyage à travers cinquante ans d'histoire d'Internet. Le livre commence par présenter comment modéliser un réseau de données montrant les origines du réseau et la fonction de l'interconnexion de réseaux. Ensuite, il explique comment le protocole Internet (IPv4) a été développé : Qu'est-ce que c'est ? pourquoi en avions-nous besoin, quel type de services fournit-il ? comment fonctionne sos auxiliaires ? Le livre suit ensuite le problème de l'épuisement de l'espace des adresses IPv4 en discutant des solutions qui ont été proposées pour faire face au ce problème, à savoir le routage interdomaine sans classe (CIDR) et la traduction d'adresses réseau (NAT), et jusqu'à l'IPv6, le protocole qui représente la solution définitive. Le livre se termine en discutant des auxiliaires d'IPv6, à savoir le protocole de message de contrôle Internet pour IPv6 (ICMPv6) Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP).
