Statistics of the Magnetic Field Variability Observed by the Parker Solar Probe FIELDS Magnetometers
Résumé
The magnetic field data obtained by the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) FIELDS instrument magnetometers are similar for each of the 3 PSP orbits to date, as one might expect. The differences, primarily near the perihelion passes, are due to the field structure on the solar surface and to some transient events, such as coronal mass ejections. The most obvious and intriguing difference compared to magnetic field data acquired farther from the Sun than PSP orbits is the extreme variability of the magnetic fields, especially near the PSP perihelions. Several other AGU talks address the nature and causes of these variabilities, while we present statistical summaries of magnetic field measurements for each orbit.
