Vanadium(II)- and vanadium(III)-formamidinato compounds. Synthesis and molecular structure of V(form)2(NC5H5)2 and V(η5-C5H5)(form)2 [form=N,N′-di-p-tolylformamidine]

VCl2py4 and Li+form− in toluene afford V(form)2py2 (1) in 63% isolated yields. VCp(form)2 (2) can be prepared in 60% yields from the thermal reaction between VCp2 and Hform: Crystal data. Compound 1: triclinic, space group P a=9.549(3), b=12.366(3), c=16.194(3) Å, α=108.77(2), β=90.94(2), γ=94.83(2)°, V=1802(2) Å3, Z=2, Dc=1.208 g cm−3, R=0.050 (Rw=0.062) for 441 parameters and 3051 data with Fo2 > 3σ(Fo2). Compound 2: triclinic, space group P, a=13.135(1), b=15.452(3), c=8.064(1) Å, α=103.41(1), β=102.92(1), γ=103.55(1)°, V=1479(1) Å3, Z=2, Dc=1.263 g cm−3, R=0.058 (Rw=0.078) for 327 parameters and 2319 data having Fo2 > 3σ(Fo2).
