Les années 1870-1871 dans la presse musicale française et allemande. État des lieux sur une période politique et artistique particulièrement mouvementée

Abstract : The purpose of the present article is to propose an inventory of the troubled period between January 1, 1870 and December 31, 1871, through its reception in six of the main French and German music periodicals published in Paris, Berlin and Leipzig. This broad chronological perspective makes it possible to take into account also the six months preceding the declaration of the Franco-German War and the seven months following the end of the Paris Commune. The first part of the article deals with the temporary or definitive interruption of the publication of Parisian music periodicals and the sustained interest of each country in news from its neighbour. The next three parts are devoted to the strong presence of the German instrumental repertoire in Paris, to Offenbach’s delicate position during the war and to the festivities of the centenary of Beethoven’s birth. The fifth and last part studies the vast production of patriotic and nationalistic songs.
