The invention relates to electrical engineering, namely to high and ultrahigh pressure gas-discharge lamps. The invention encompasses high power short arc xenon lamps, high pressure mercury short arc lamps, and all other short arc lamps with a cathode doped with an easily ionizable additive and an anode with a diameter larger than that of the gas discharge arc. The technical and economic efficiency of the claimed invention consists in increasing the efficiency of generation of optical radiation in the selected region of the spectrum. The effect is achieved by an appropriate choice of the shape of the working surface of the anode facing the cathode.
