The role of EMI in development planning: the case of the Grands Philambins enigma
Le rôle des méthodes électromagnétiques dans l'aménagement du territoire l'étude des cas énigmatique des Grands Philambins
Résumé
Spatial planning aims at constantly improving the distribution of people and activities within available space, especially near cities. A consequence of spatial planning is the need to build new infrastructures or buildings, on agricultural or brownfield lands mainly. However, it can be hard to properly plan works over these areas, because of the great uncertainties about underground properties. In agricultural lands, the presence of archaeological structures or geological artefacts, such as cavities, can seriously delay any construction project. But the most hazardous terrains are the brownfields, not only because of the probable presence of old industrial structures, but also due to soil contamination, which often needs to be removed with expensive processes. A proper identification of these hazards can mitigate their impacts on construction works. In this paper, we will see, through concrete examples, how maps obtained with EMI methods can help in the understanding of the underground structures and the qualification of the hazards.
