Local adaptation plans: comparisons and lessons learned

Résumé

The number of local climate adaptation plans has grown rapidly over the last ten years, and the work of cities and various local authorities, national and international think tanks, and networks has offered new insights into planning for climate change adaptation. Their strategies are rooted in their countries' land-use policies and national planning cultures following different methodological guidelines that are, in some cases, mandatory. This paper offers further reflections on the need for a uniform system of indicators to facilitate monitoring, knowledge sharing, and cross-border comparison of climate adaptation plans, following up on our previous research and bibliographic studies. It also highlights the necessity to engage diverse stakeholders, including, and primarily, the most vulnerable groups, to ensure equity considerations in successful adaptation planning.
