A Numerical Study of Fluidization Behavior of Geldart B, A/B and A Particles Using an Eulerian Multifluid Modeling Approach

Abstract : An Eulerian multifluid modeling approach developed for dilute and dense gas particle flows is applied to the 2D prediction of Geldart B, A/B and A particle fluidization. The particle phase modeling approach is based on dry granular kinetic theory, modified to account for the interstitial gas effect. An extensive analysis on the mesh refinement influence is carried out, pointing out a drastic improvement of the bed height predictions for the smallest cell sizes. An empirical law giving the needed grid mesh size to insure mesh independent average bed height is proposed.
