L’exclamation en grec ancien

Abstract : Ancient Greek exclamation is here fully addressed for the first time. Based on dialogs (theatre and philosophy), a series of expressive utterances are examined, taking into account many factors (interjections, particles, elliptical and atypical syntax, textual coherence). Hence the limits of a phenomenon too often extended to any expressive utterance are clarified and two crucial criteria are uncovered: the content is evident to the speaker; the speaker marks his/her emotive distance from this content by exclaiming. Focalization and high degree play a crucial role. So far unknown structures are identified.
