Editorial choices and adaptation of a literary myth. What "abridged Robinson" for the 21st century reader?

Choix éditoriaux et adaptation d’un mythe littéraire. Quel Robinson abrégé pour le lecteur du XXIème siècle ?

This article compares two versions of Robinson Crusoe (1977 and 2019) issued by a children's literature publisher. It aims at identifying in each of the texts what can indicate, in the adapter's work, both an intention of fidelity to the original work and a desire to capture the young reader's attention. In addition, we are carrying out an analysis of the concept of abridgment.

Cet article compare deux versions de Robinson Crusoé (de 1977 et 2019) publiées par un éditeur de littérature de jeunesse. Il s’agit d’identifier dans chacun des textes ce qui peut traduire chez l’adaptateur à la fois une intention de fidélité à l’œuvre originale et une volonté de capter l’attention du jeune lecteur. Par ailleurs, nous nous livrons à une analyse de la notion d’abrègement.
