Mental Workload and Technostress at Work. Which Perspectives and Theoretical Frameworks Can Help Us Understand Both Phenomena Together?

Résumé

This paper is a literature review attempting to summarize the different theories and models that can deal with the phenomena of technostress and mental workload generated by the use of digital technologies in the work context. Theories including the task-technology fit model, the person-technology fit or the sociotechnical perspectives such as the process of appropriation of technology, will foster a new point of view to understand the relationship between mental workload and technostress. A discussion will be proposed, comprehending a series of reflections on the above-mentioned theories, as well as an attempt to answer the question proposed in the title of this paper.
