From the editorial logic to the algorithmic logic of news
Da lógica editorial à lógica algorítmica da notícia
Résumé
The purpose of this article of theoretical articulation, underpinned by bibliographic research, is to track the impact of algorithms on news. It is argued that, under algorithmic logic, the boundaries between those who specialize in dealing with news and everyone else, between what is news and what is not, and between news on different topics and with different degrees of importance have become increasingly porous. This flexibilization of news, analyzed from the standpoints of distribution, business, filtering and production, indicates the weakening of the mediating role usually performed by journalism based on editorial parameters, such as news values and normative criteria, and the simultaneous increase in strength of algorithmic mechanisms of mediation, mainly through platforms.
A proposta deste artigo de articulação teórica, apoiado em pesquisa bibliográfica, é rastrear o impacto dos algoritmos na notícia. Argumenta-se que, sob a lógica algorítmica, se tornam porosas as fronteiras entre os que se especializam na atividade noticiosa e os demais, entre o que é notícia ou não, e entre notícias de distintos tópicos e graus de importância. Essa flexibilização da notícia, analisada sob as rubricas de distribuição, negócio, filtragem e produção, é relacionada ao enfraquecimento do papel de mediação exercido habitualmente pelo jornalismo com base em parâmetros editoriais, como valores-notícia e critérios normativos, ao mesmo tempo que ganham força mecanismos algorítmicos de mediação, sobretudo via plataformas.
