This document gives a strict definition of LCF - Layout Configuration Format. It is a JSON based format for representing configuration data for railway applications. An important problem that the format solves is that, while being a strictly specified machine readable format, it is also compact and easy to review manually without specialized tool support. LCF is intended for use in safety critical applications where manual reviews are part of the process.
