Contribution to the optimisation of products recovery and remanufacturing: a multiobjective non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm based hybrid approach

Résumé

The circular economy revolutionized the world of industry especially with the emergence of environmental end-of-life strategies such as remanufacturing. Remanufacturing consists of a perfect balance between recycling and direct reuse, and has been defined as a process involving three main stages: (1) the used product recovery, (2) the rebuilding, refurbishing, and reconditioning of the recovered products, and (3) the redistribution of the remanufactured products. In this paper, we study the end-of-life management of many items of the same product, over a time horizon divided into several periods. Each item is characterized by its quality, based on its remaining lifetime and the level of improvement undergone by the remanufacturing actions. Our objective is to determine the number of items from each level that we can recover on each period and decide for each recovered item, the quality level to achieve. We propose a mathematical model and a hybrid solution approach based on the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm and a newly developed heuristic.
