Le Chicago de Richard Wright et le Wright de Chicago
Résumé
Chicago, it seems, has a way of leaving its imprint upon those who live in it" (Richard Wright). This chapter proposes to examine the relation between Richard Wright and the city of Chicago, where he lived from 1927 to 1937, that is to say during his early years as a writer. Was it only a source of inspiration as far as the content of his contemporary and later fiction is concerned? I will suggest that Chicago's "imprint" on Wright also reached his project as a writer and the writing strategies he defined during that period but sustained much longer in his works. Chicago, it seems, has a way of leaving its imprint upon those who live in it.
