L’introduction de l’« excellence » en éducation prioritaire. La fabrique d’un nouveau besoin éducatif ?

Abstract : This article draws on research conducted on the implementation of the Paths to Excellence programme in an educational district in the South of France, to question how these programmes focused on “excellence” construct a new educational need for certain students in priority education. After presenting the Paths of Excellence programme and its place in priority education in France, the article analyses the way that teachers confront the need to define this new need and target the students who are concerned by it. It goes on to explore the way the students understand their involvement in this programme and the effects it can have on their self-image.
