Characterization of sources and processes of organic aerosols sampled at Revin (France), during the EMEP 2012 campaign

Résumé

A field campaign has been performed in summer 2012 at Revin, a remote site in northeastern France, in order to study the sources and processes of organic aerosols and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The particle concentration was low, and non-refractory submicron particles (NR-PM1) were dominated by organics. Secondary organic aerosols accounted for 82% of the total organic mass, while primary emissions mainly from traffic accounted for 18%. Three periods of high mass loadings (June 28, night of June 28-29, and July 3-5) were observed during the study. Back-trajectory analysis showed that the site was mainly under the influence of long-range transport from the Paris megacity during these periods.
