This paper focuses on the identity and politics associated with the renewed interest in Guadeloupe in a traditional art called “gwo ka”, composed of dance, percussions and songs. Based on an ethnographic field work, including interviews with dancers, artists in Guadeloupe and in mainland France, this paper analyses the way Guadeloupean identify themselves to this art form.
