Modeling of a Continuous Anaerobic Digestion of Wastes

Abstract : Anaerobic digestion is widely used for waste treatment and the production of biogas. The automatization and optimization of the operation of the digestor is still a challenging task. This study considers the first step in the design of the optimal continuous operation of an experimental anaerobic digestor, namely its modeling. The well-known Anaerobic Digestion Model No.1 (ADM1) model is used, and its parameters identified from experimental data. Sensitivity analysis allows determining the more influential kinetic parameters of the model to be identified. The modeling procedure is assessed and its performance highlighted through the comparison between measured and predicted outputs.
