Editorial. Confinement des étrangers : entre circulation et enfermement

Résumé

The internement and expulsion of undocumented aliens in Western states takes place within an ambivalent space of circulation, which is shaped by disciplinary sites, waiting zones, practices of census and assistance. Understanding circulation as yet another dimension of exclusion implies a dynamic approach that not only focuses on the "internement in" places of relegation, but also on continuous movements within a marginal space. The Special Issue features empirical studies on actors and technologies of alien confinement, which investigate the tension and oscillation between internement and circulation. Beyond the issues of criminalisation, deprivation of freedom, and arbitrariness, the collection proposes an alternative perspective on the "camp" in its relationship with practices of control of movement and with spaces of forced or illegal circulation that it produces.
