Observations on the nesting of Osmia (Allosmia) sybarita Smith 1853 (Hymenoptera, Megachilidae) in Crete

Observations sur la nidification d’Osmia (Allosmia) sybarita Smith, 1853 (Hymenoptera, Megachilidae) en Crète

We provide the first observational evidence that the females of Osmia (Allosmia) sybarita Smith 1853 bury their nest made in empty snail shells. This behaviour is similar to that of several of its sister species in the subgenus Allosmia, such as O. (Allosmia) lhotelleriei Pérez 1887, O. (Allosmia) melanura Morawitz, 1871, and O. (Allosmia) rutila Erichson, 1835.

Nous fournissons ici les premières observations sur le comportement d’enfouissement des nids par les femelles de la petite osmie hélicicole Osmia (Allosmia) sybarita Smith 1853. Ces informations indiquent donc que ce comportement de nidification est identique à celui de plusieurs de ses espèces-soeurs dans le sous-genre Allosmia, comme par exemple O. (Allosmia) lhotelleriei Pérez 1887, O. (Allosmia) melanura Morawitz, 1871 et O. (Allosmia) rutila Erichson, 1835.
