Les oasis méditerranéennes

Abstract : Maintained by the societies of the Sahara and Arabia sometimes for millennia, the oases certainly owe their existence as much to the exchange network that exists between them as this network owes its existence to the oases. Oases are not peripheral geographical objects, but nodes of an island network that has been the architecture of great kingdoms or political organizations. One may even wonder whether the condition of exchange, even with territories beyond the desert, is not in fact the raison d'être of oases. Indeed, it structures their organization, their economy and ... also their agrobiodiversity.
