This papers explores how, in the recreational town – that of leisure activities, festivals, non-institutional sports and (counter)cultural practices – space can be seen as a social mediator, participating in and/or constructing transactions with other social actors and agents in the town. Two levels of social transaction –with oneself and with others – each engage with two forms of spatial transaction. Space is successively, or simultaneously, the setting, the object, the product and/or the collective actor at the heart of the interaction process and the creation of a collective voice and/or joint decision-making in which urban actors have a large share.

Cet article explore comment, dans la ville récréative – celle des loisirs, des festivals, des sports non-institués et des pratiques (contre)culturelles – l’espace apparaît comme un médiateur social, participant et/ou construisant des transactions avec les autres acteurs et agents sociaux de la ville. Deux niveaux de transaction sociale – avec soi-même et avec autrui – déclinent chacun deux formes de transactions spatiales. L’espace est successivement, ou simultanément, le cadre, l’objet, le produit et/ou l’acteur collectif au cœur du processus d’interaction et de construction d’une parole commune et/ou d’une décision concertée impliquant une part importante des acteurs de l’urbain.
