CONSEQUENTIAL LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT: STATE OF THE ART, OPERATIONALIZATION AND GOOD PRACTICES

The present research was carried out by the CRP Henri Tudor for SCORE LCA targeting three main objectives: 4) To perform a comprehensive and independent state of the art of consequential LCA (C-LCA) and its use in the daily LCA practice, highlighting its methodological foundations and its differences with respect to the attributional approach; 5) To build a decision tree aiming at supporting and steering the LCA practitioner in the choice of the right LCA modelling perspective for a given application context, and especially identifying when a C-LCA approach is absolutely necessary; 6) To recommend future research orientations and needs to improve the methodology and operationability of C-LCA These objectives are extensively addressed in the full report. The aim of this extended abstract is to highlight the main results and conclusion for the sake of maximum transparency and to explain the concept of C-LCA to practitioners without any previous knowledge in the matter.

Le présent projet de recherche réalisé par le CRP Henri Tudor pour SCORE LCA a trois objectifs: 1) réaliser un état de l’art complet et indépendant de l’approche d’ACV conséquentielle (CLCA, ou ACVc) et de son utilisation dans la pratique, en mettant en évidence les fondements méthodologiques la caractérisant et permettant de la distinguer par rapport notamment à l’ACV attributionnelle ; 2) rédiger un arbre de décision, qui puisse aider le praticien ACV à choisir la bonne approche d’ACV pour une étude donnée et notamment suggérer quand une approche de type conséquentielle est pertinente, voire nécessaire. (voir le schéma simplifié de l’arbre en Annexe D: Schéma de l’Arbre de decision – Délivrable D3.1.). 3) dégager des recommandations de recherche et de développement pour améliorer l’approche. Les objectifs sont adressés tout au long du rapport. Le but de cette synthèse est d’extraire les éléments et conclusions clés dans un souci de transparence afin de rendre le concept de l’ACV conséquentielle accessible pour un public non professionnel de l’ACV.
