Gestion des populations animales à petits effectifs. Accès aux dispositifs par l'analyse des controverses

Abstract : Rare Breed Management: analysing setups through controversies. Characterizing the management setups for rare breeds is difficult owing to the multiplicity of stakeholders and the diversity of management actions and practices. We propose to analyse the controversies that develop within these setups in order to better understand the way technical choices are made. Based on an interdisciplinary approach linking animal sciences and sociology, this work enables us to access interactions between various factors during key moments in the management history. The case of the French "Landais" sheep breed shows how this type of analysis enables us to focus on key stakeholders and to qualify stakeholders according to their position in a controversy. We also highlight the kind of information mobilized by the stakeholders and the links between organizational and technical aspects, as well as the crucial importance of the social definition of the breed.
