Couplings between the power generator and a DBD Excilamp supplied with a resonant current source
Résumé
A new generator topology, specifically studied for the supply of DBD excilamps (Xe-Cl, Kr-Cl), has been recently developed at LAPLACE Laboratory. It exhibits a controllable discontinuous current-source behavior, which allows an accurate control of the UV emission. Design rules and performances (including experiments, electrical efficiency measurements-higher than 90%) of this discontinuous resonant current inverter are presented. Under specific experimental conditions, which will be detailed, a Xe-Cl excilamp connected to this power supply exhibits an unexpected system behavior: low frequency (# 0.05 Hz) jumps are observed on the UV emission (with intense flash of a few seconds). A study of the couplings between the generator and the lamp, and of the sensitivity of the transferred power relatively to the lamp parameters [4] is proposed to analyze this behavior and will be discussed.
