PACO : A corpus to analyze the impact of common ground in spontaneous face-to-face interaction

PACO: un corpus pour analyser l'impact du common ground dans les interactions spontanées en face à face

PACO is a French audio-video conversational corpus made of 15 face-to-face dyadic interactions, lasting around 20 min each. This compared corpus has been created in order to explore the impact of the lack of personal common ground (Clark, 1996) on participants collaboration during conversation and specifically on their smile during topic transitions. We have constituted this conversational corpus PACO by replicating the experimental protocol of "Cheese!" (Priego-Valverde et al., 2018). The only difference that distinguishes these two corpora is the degree of CG of the interlocutors: in Cheese! interlocutors are friends, while in PACO they do not know each other. This experimental protocol allows to analyze how the participants are getting acquainted. This study brings two main contributions. First, the PACO conversational corpus enables to compare the impact of the interlocutors' common ground. Second, the semi-automatic smile annotation protocol allows to obtain reliable and reproducible smile annotations while reducing the annotation time by a factor 10.

PACO est un corpus conversationnel audio-vidéo français composé de 15 interactions dyadiques en face à face, d'une durée d'environ 20 minutes chacune. Ce corpus comparé a été créé afin d'explorer l'impact du manque de Common Ground - CG - (Clark, 1996) sur la collaboration des participants pendant la conversation et plus particulièrement sur leur sourire pendant les transitions thématiques. Nous avons constitué ce corpus conversationnel PACO en reproduisant le protocole expérimental de "Cheese!" (Priego-Valverde et al., 2018). La seule différence qui distingue ces deux corpus est le degré de CG des interlocuteurs : dans Cheese ! les interlocuteurs sont des amis, alors que dans PACO ils ne se connaissent pas. Ce protocole expérimental permet d'analyser comment les participants font connaissance. Cette étude apporte deux contributions principales. Tout d'abord, le corpus conversationnel du PACO permet de comparer l'impact des connaissances partagées des interlocuteurs. Deuxièmement, le protocole semi-automatique d'annotation du sourire permet d'obtenir des annotations du sourire fiables et reproductibles tout en réduisant le temps d'annotation d'un facteur 10.
