Horticulture in controlled environments is an alternative to meet the growing food needs of population. For plants growth in these environments, artificial lighting is necessary. This lighting must be adapted to plant i.e. a lighting that has a suitable spectrum. LED technology, although recent in horticultural lighting, has a considerable market share and steadily growing. Moreover, in addition to its variety of monochromatic spectral range suitable for photosynthesis and phytochemical compounds accumulation, it has a high energy efficiency. Horticultural lighting is a promising sector with LED manufacturing industries or horticultural lamp, distribution, fittings, consulting and others that are diversified and growing. The market is dominated by Europe and North America. Finally, in 2018, global market for LED horticultural lighting was valued in terms of revenues at 868 billion USD. This market is expected to reach 3912.7 billion USD by 2025 with an average annual growth rate of 24%.

L'horticulture en milieux contrôlés est une alternative pour répondre aux besoins alimentaires croissants de la population. Pour la croissance des plantes dans ces environnements, un éclairage artificiel est nécessaire. Cet éclairage doit être adapté à la plante c'est-à-dire un éclairage qui a un spectre approprié. La technologie LED, quoique récente parmi les technologies horticoles, possède une part de marché considérable et en croissance constante. En plus de sa variété de gamme spectrale monochromatique adaptée à la photosynthèse et à l'accumulation de composés phytochimiques, elle offre une efficacité énergétique élevée. L'éclairage horticole est un secteur industriel prometteur, avec la fabrication de LED ou de lampes horticoles, la distribution, les accessoires, le conseil et d'autres activités diversifiées et en croissance. Le marché est dominé par l'Europe et l'Amérique du Nord. En 2018, le marché mondial de l'éclairage horticole LED a été évalué en termes de chiffre d’affaires à 868 milliards de dollars. Ce marché devrait atteindre 3 912,7 milliards de dollars d'ici 2025 avec un taux de croissance annuel moyen de 24 %.
