Les scènes du cinéma indépendant dans le Nord-Est parisien

Abstract : Confronted with the very vertical logics of the film industry, individuals located in the north-eastern part of Paris are organizing and structuring themselves to offer independent cinema on the margins. The emergence of these new scenes responds to the desire of producing a different cinema. We will highlight the dynamics of creation, structuring and organization of two independent film scenes benefiting from a strong commitment of local policies in this territory to support artistic creation and distribution. Based on this empirical work, we discuss the relevance of the usual explanatory models of creative ecosystems, in the light of the ongoing debates in the field of urban studies. Rather than economic geography approaches that are based on clusters, we use the notion of scene to highlight the role of aesthetic proximity in the emergence and structuring of networks of actors and practices that come to life in shared territories (residences, filming locations, post-production, cinemas, etc.).
