Heuristic and Quantitative Modelling of Polarimetric and temporal Properties of Weather Radar Signals from Rain and Wind-Parks

Abstract : Back-scattering and forward-scattering of weathers radar signals from Wind park establishments are well known sources of distortions and interference in weather radar echoes. In this contribution, we shall consider the polarimetric and temporal behavior of weather radar signals. The aim is to identify key polarimetric and temporal-dependence features of radar signals in order to develop theoretical framework for developing algorithms for detecting and possibly mitigating scattering from wind-parks. In doing so, we shall consider the reflectivity, differential reflectivity (ZDR), and linear depolarisation ratio (LDR) signatures of rain and wind parks. The analysis will be based on both quantitative and heuristic modelling of the two competing radar signal sources.
