Transitions énergétiques à Istanbul et Le Cap. À propos de transformations plurielles

Abstract : The present article aims at widening the debate on energy transition beyond the Western context. Based on two metropolitan case studies from the “Global South”, it suggests to move away from normative and supposedly universal scenarios of energy changes and to confront transitions with the singularities of the societies and territories in which they take shape. It is then apparent that discourses on global climate change have far less impact on Istanbul and Cap Town energy trajectories than local ecological crisis or changes in socio-political compromises, always fragile and dependent on national historical legacies
