Abstract : This theoretical paper presents a framework for the classification of variables (as used in school) that goes beyond traditional classifications by clustering variables according to their syntactical, semantical and pragmatical properties. Moreover, the paper associates certain emotional qualities to these aspects of variables and indicated how they help in understanding students’ misconceptions.
