Slides for a talk given in Lausanne in November 2012 on the results of Colliot-Thélène, Skorobogatov, Swinnerton-Dyer and the author applying a complete 2-descent on a variable elliptic curve to study the rational points of surfaces fibered into curves of genus 1. The proof follows a simplified presentation appearing here for the first time.
