Caractéristiques individuelles d'étudiantes en gymnastique rythmique et stratégies d'auto-handicap

Abstract : This study analyses relations among trait anxiety, self-esteem and self-handicapping strategies, reported by female sport students (N = 74), when they have to do rhythmic gymnastic exercise in public, for the national competitive recruiting exam for PE teachers. Results demonstrate that this population mentions external and internal impediments which are credible yet have little to do with sport values. This process aims to maintain positive environmental conditions for the Self. It especially shows the ambiguity of the concept of achievement in performance for these women, which enables us to discuss the real benefits in the use of these strategies.
