Apparitions et images fluides chez David Cronenberg et Art Orienté objet

This article analyses the role and modalities of the apparition in "Videodrome" (David Cronenberg, 1983) and the video of the performance "Que le cheval vive en moi"/"May the Horse Live in Me" (by the artistic duo Art Orienté objet, 2006-2011) in which, a moving image pretended to make visible a cross between a human and a non-human. We observe the way in which the apparition is favoured by the difficulty in defining reality and fiction in these works but also how the concept of contamination can serve to characterise a certain fluidity of the image, which also facilitates the apparition. This approach to the image as a fluid object is reinforced by the modes of disseminating these works (film, video cassette, television, internet). It leads to a mystical understanding of the moment of the apparition which uses the material, biological and temporal shortcomings of the image to assert itself and contribute to the aesthetics of hybridization.

En s'appuyant sur le film "Vidéodrome" (David Cronenberg, 1983) et sur la performance "Que le cheval vive en moi" (2006-2011) d'Art Orienté objet, cet article analyse comment l'image en mouvement tente de rendre visible un passage de l'humain au non-humain. Qu'est-ce qui surgit lorsque les effets des technologies sur l'humain tentent d'être représentés ? Analyser le caractère fluide de ces images, relayant un imaginaire technologique, permet d'éclairer la façon dont cette fluidité interroge la notion d'apparition. Une certaine fluidité de l'image permet de repérer une difficulté à distinguer ce qui relève de la réalité ou de la fiction, ou encore la représentation du motif de la contamination. Les modes de diffusion de ces œuvres participent à cette idée d'une image fluide et circulante. Finalement, ces œuvres nous amènent à percevoir le moment de l'apparition comme un événement mystique en investissant les manques matériels, temporels d'une image "vivante", et contribuant ainsi à une esthétique de l'hybridation.
