"More is different" : Collectif dans la collection d'histoire naturelle
Abstract : This paper discuss, throught examples from social structures the importance of the collective behavior in a natural history collection, and the emergence of a unity and coherence throught the mulplicity of samples, In this approach, it stress the importance of the minerals, so called "modest" by their intrinsic aestethic or investment value, but important for their scientific, naturalist or historical value for the coherence of a collection. It ends by showong how emergence also appears in inorganic matter throught magentism, and by comparing the quest of a collector to the alchimic quest, metaphor of the improvement of himself.
