Imaginaire social et Cancer

Abstract : This paper aims at analyzing contemporary social imaginary about cancer, through the study of the main social (lay and erudite) representations linked to this pathology and which currently occur in France. More than a simple pathology among others, however, cancer generates a real “cultural universe” which reveals and questions the collective mentalities and practices, taking into account its epidemiological importance and at the same time its strong symbolic load and the increasing mobilisation of patients’associations. It is about these three aspects that we shall explain our comments.
