Contre-public, contre-discours, contre-média ?

Abstract : In the 1960s, social movements began displaying a critical attitude toward political apparatuses and operating outside the institutional sphere. One such movement was Italy’s MoVimento 5 stelle (M5S), the political organization tied to funnyman Beppe Grillo’s counter-information blog. In order to examine how sociotechnical changes are shaping the foundational dynamics of new political communities, the author studied M5S’s media strategies to investigate the role of digital practices in new processes for mobilizing political partisans and mediatizing political conflict.
