The recolonization of territories after the LGM: between environmental constraints and cultural choices

Résumé

Oekumene is largely dependent on climatic fluctuations. But, if global warming is a prerequisite for the (re)colonization of certain territories at the end of the LGM, it is clear that local ecological factors and human choices govern the timing and modalities of settlement in these new territories. Through a bibliographical review, the objective of this introductory communication is to discuss the various factors put forward to explain the disparities recorded in the occupation of these new territories. In this context, examples from the south of France will nuance the idealized image of a southwestern Europe often considered as a refuge area as whole.
