L'éperon barré de La Sangle dans l'estuaire de la Loire (Bouguenais, Loire-Atlantique). Prospections et fouille : un premier bilan des acquis

Abstract : Since the 19th century the Bouguenais promontory is known by scholars whichinform the presence of ancient remains and a castle mound installed at the end ofthe spur. The latter is enclosed by anearth rampart (6 ha) recently dated to the Iron Age. Although the site has been the subject of numerous descriptions and excavations (19th century), the mound dating still remains unknown. In March 2013, the prospection with micro-topographic survey was realized on the entire surface of promontory. The main goal was to characterize the mound and the whole site. The abundant collection of ceramic showed dense and diachronic occupation of the site (Bronze Age, 1st and 2ndIron Age, Early Medieval, Central Middle Age and Late Medieval). Besides that, detailed and precise map of the whole structures was obtained. This program also allowed the re-examination of the ancient documentation, raising the difficulties of chronological attribution of the mound.
