Enhancement of bistability in SSFLC devices

The lack of bistability in SSFLC devices is studied with special regard to the surface alignment electric properties. On decreasing the thickness of the alignment film, different behaviours of the cell are observed. An improvement in bistability is indeed obtained with the thinner film but the effect is only visible after the layers have been straightened out.
