Abstract : The ability to deal with one’s emotions in professional situations that involve human relations is generally taught with role playing. However, role playing is expensive (comedians) or difficult to set up if the students are play-ing a role that is not theirs yet. In order to improve the training offered to Edu-cation Counselors (ECs), we propose the TGRIS virtual reality simulator, that allows ECs to naturally discuss with a virtual novice teacher (i.e. simulated by an embodied conversational agent). This tool has the particularity of using ex-changes extracted from real problematic counselling situations. In addition, the verbal and non-verbal responses as well as the emotional state of the virtual novice teachers are piloted by the teacher. This research explores how this sys-tem allows ECs to learn how to dialogue with novice teachers who resist to their help. The experimentation lead with 12 ECs shows the potential of instru-mented training with TGRIS.
