Le merveilleux et la science : le bruissement des formules-images

Abstract : In the context of multiple relationships between marvelous and science, this study sets out to analyze the mathematical/physical/chemical (pseudo-)formulae creating “a wonderful effect” in the discourse of literary criticism and literature in the 20th century. It is a marvelous that often takes “scientific” postures, and has a tendency to escape from the strictly literary world, in order to reach out to an aesthetic or poetic desire and covert enjoyment. Examples are offered from Pierre-Maxime Schuhl, Marinetti, Tzara, Leiris, Desnos.
