New route to carbonate-functionalized imidazolium and pyrrolidinium-based ionic liquids

Résumé

A new, versatile, and green route to access ionic liqs. contg. carbonate groups, including 1-[2-(propyloxycarbonyloxy)ethyl]-3-Me imidazolium and N-methyl-N-[2-(propyl-oxcarbonyl) ethyl] pyrrolidinium assocd. with a bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide anion, [C1(C2O(CO)OC3)Im][NTf2] and [C1(C2O(CO)OC3)Py][NTf2], has been developed and characterized. The key point of this route is to avoid the metathesis reaction step with LiNTf2, which could result in ionic liqs. that are highly contaminated with LiCl salt through the coordination of lithium ions by the carbonate group.
