Influence de la race, de la stratégie d’alimentation et de l’âge au 1er vêlage sur les émissions de méthane entérique intégrées à l’échelle du système laitier

Abstract : With enteric methane, the ruminants contributes to greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. In France, this represents 7 to 8% of the total GHG emissions. The integration of CH4 emissions at the livestock farming system level is poorly described and the influential factors analysis offers other possibilities for mitigation than at the animal level. The results of the long term experiment “The cow for the system?” have been combined to quantify by modeling the dairy herd CH4 emissions. The effect of the breed, the first calving age and the feeding strategy has been described. At the same level of milk sales (400 t), the enteric CH4 annual emissions vary from 10.7 to 19.2 t according to the breed and herds demography observed. The total CH4 released is sensitive to the individual performance and reduced with high genetic merit cows and high feeding strategies. The ability to be incalf and the first calving age have an influence on the herd size, and consequently, on the CH4 emissions. Within every system, different levers of technical improvement exist and are often associated with increased system efficiency. The impact of these levers has to be evaluated globally to avoid possible adverse associated effects on environment
